European heterojunction (HJT) manufacturer Meyer Burger Technology AG has received positive news amidst financial difficulties, as its efficient components have officially qualified for the Italian Transizione 5.0 incentive program and can enjoy up to 150% tax credits.
The Transizione 5.0 program aims to support domestic commercial photovoltaic projects and encourage the use of European made solar modules. Meyer Burger stated that the company is the only enterprise that meets the highest subsidy category C.
To obtain incentives in this category, photovoltaic modules must meet three core requirements:
Components must be manufactured in the European Union;
Components must use double-sided batteries produced by the European Union;
The battery conversion efficiency needs to reach at least 24%.
Meyer Burger claims that Italian photovoltaic projects using its components can cover nearly two-thirds of the total investment cost.
In addition, Meyer Burger has announced the signing of the first HJT module supply agreement with IBC Solar, a photovoltaic EPC company, for the Italian market. The supplied products will be produced at the Freiberg factory in Saxony, Germany. Although the factory was shut down in March 2024 due to a large influx of low-priced Chinese component inventory into the European market, the company will still fulfill the order using existing inventory and stated that the inventory is "sufficient in quantity".
At present, the company is negotiating supply agreements with more potential customers for the Italian market.
